May Crowning 2020

Every May we make floral crowns for our Mary statues to recognize and honor her as Queen as Heaven and Earth. The last several years, we have made a day retreat at The Sycamore Tree Catholic Retreat Center with a couple other families to celebrate our faith  and our love for Mary. We would make crowns from the wildflowers and greenery (and bring a few of our own) and crown the many Mary statues on the property as we pray a walking rosary together.
This year, things are a bit different as we are missing our friends and our trip to The Sycamore Tree. We decided to celebrate our May Crowning today, on the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima.  We kept it simple as we made a couple floral crowns from a beautiful arrangement of flowers my mom sent for Mother’s Day and our oldest daughter’s at-home graduation celebration. It seemed appropriate to use flowers from my mom to crown our Heavenly Mother. Thanks, mom!  The girls secured their chosen flowers around wire and shaped it into a little wreath. We processed to Our Lady of Guadalupe outside and sang “Immaculate Mary” as she was crowned.  We then came back inside and crowned Our Lady of Lourdes, continuing our song and concluding with 3 Hail Marys.  All this was done in love and joy as we keep the traditions of our faith alive, honoring our Blessed Mother in our hearts and in our home.
